Concentrate Vaporizers
A concentrate vaporizer is built for extracts, waxes and resins rather than dried herb. Instead of a herb oven it has a small heated bowl, often ceramic or quartz, that vaporises a tiny amount of material at a controlled temperature. The range spans pen-style devices you can carry in a pocket and electronic dab rigs, or e-rigs, that pass vapour through water for a smoother draw.
These are not dry herb devices, so they are not scored on our dry herb bench. Instead we explain how they work in what is dabbing and what is an e-rig, and compare the two biggest makers in our Puffco guide and Dr Dabber guide. Owners of the Puffco Peak Pro, Proxy and Pivot will find setup and cleaning help in our Peak Pro guide.
Concentrate vaporizer questions
What is an e-rig?
An e-rig is a battery-powered dab rig: a heated bowl, a water chamber and electronic temperature control in one unit. What is an e-rig? explains the parts.
What temperature should I use?
Lower temperatures favour flavour; higher ones give denser vapour. Our dab temperature guide lists settings in °C and °F.
Can I use dry herb in a concentrate vaporizer?
Generally not. Concentrate bowls are designed for extracts. Can you put flower in a Puffco? covers the Puffco range specifically. For herb, see dry herb vaporizers.
Puffco or Dr Dabber?
Both make well-regarded e-rigs with different strengths. Read the Puffco guide and the Dr Dabber guide, which compares the two directly.
How do I clean an e-rig?
Wipe the bowl after each use and clean the glass regularly. How to clean a dab rig walks through it without damaging the chamber.
