This is the owner's guide to the Puffco Peak Pro, Puffco's app-connected e-rig, including the 3D and 3DXL chambers. If you've got the cheaper, app-free New Peak (2024), most of this still applies, and there's a separate section with a comparison table for the bits that differ.

Where I'm coming from: I'm a dry-herb man first, and have been since 2018, but I've benched the Puffco kit HerbVape stocks. Most Peak Pro questions are "what does this light mean?", so the light-code table sits near the top. Every spec, click and temperature on this page comes from Puffco's own manuals and help centre. Where Puffco's sources disagree with each other, I say so rather than pick one and pretend.

How to Use the Puffco Peak Pro: Quick Start

1. Charge it. USB-C or a Qi wireless pad. Puffco's help centre says about 2.5 hours from empty; the product page says 2 hours. While it charges the light pulses, and it goes off when it's full.
2. Fill the glass off the base. Water to just above the air holes/perc, no higher. Never fill it while it's sitting on the base, and don't let water get into the bottom section of the glass.
3. Fit the glass and the chamber. The chamber screws onto the base. A new 3DXL chamber needs up-to-date base firmware (see the app).
4. Load a small dab into the cold chamber. Use the loading tool and aim for the centre of the bowl. Start smaller than you think you need.
5. Cap it. Joystick Cap on (the XL Joystick Cap if you've got the 3DXL chamber).
6. Wake it up. Hold the button for 3 seconds.
7. Choose a heat profile. Single-click to cycle Blue, Green, Red, White.
8. Heat. Double-click. The light pulses while it heats. Puffco quotes a 20-second heat-up.
9. Dab. When it flashes and vibrates, inhale slowly and gently. Double-click again during the cycle if you want a boost.
10. Swab it while it's warm. A cotton bud with 90%+ isopropyl alcohol around the bowl once the cycle ends. Ten seconds now saves you a soak later.

Puffco's manual doesn't list a burn-off cycle for the Peak Pro. I ran one empty heat cycle before my first load anyway. That's dry-herb habit rather than anything Puffco asks for, and you can skip it.

Puffco Peak Pro Temperature Settings

The Peak Pro has four factory heat profiles, and each is a colour. Single-click to move between them. These are the defaults from the current Peak Pro 3DXL manual (October 2024), with Puffco's own descriptions:

Two things worth knowing. First, defaults vary by firmware and manual edition. The original 2021 Peak Pro manual lists White (Peak) at 545°F rather than 575°F; Blue, Green and Red are the same in both. Second, they're only defaults. In the Puffco Connect app you can change each profile's temperature, duration and Vapor Control level (Standard, High or Max, plus XL with the 3DXL chamber), and re-colour the profiles too.

Lower is more flavour and less vapour; higher is the reverse. I mostly use the Green setting, with Blue for the first session of the day. White is for when you want the most vapour and don't much mind what it tastes like. Puffco Peak Pro Clicks: The Cheat-Sheet

One button does everything. Here's the whole vocabulary, from the current manual and Puffco's help centre:

Older guides call 5 clicks a "Lantern" shortcut. On the current manual it's Intensity Mode, and the ambient light patterns (Mood Lights) live in the app.

Puffco Peak Lights Meaning: The Full Light-Code Table

The four heat-profile colours are factory defaults you can change in the app. The status and error patterns below are fixed firmware behaviour, and they're what you actually need to read.

Two notes on the counts. Puffco's help articles say the no-chamber warning is 3 white flashes and the current manual says 4, so treat "several white flashes" as the same message. The ready signal is 3 flashes and vibrations in the help articles and 2 in the 2024 manual; either way it's the "go" signal. Orange or yellow on its own is not a Puffco error code. On the Peak Pro it only appears in the battery display.

Why Is My Puffco Peak Pro Blinking Red and White?

A Peak Pro blinking red and white has a chamber connection error. Usually residue or flooded concentrate on the chamber is stopping the base reading it properly; occasionally it's a software glitch. Soak the chamber in 90%+ isopropyl alcohol for 20 minutes, let it air-dry completely, refit it, and reset the base by holding the button for 20 seconds.

Step by step:

1. Let it cool and take the chamber off. Cap off, unscrew the chamber from the base.
2. Soak the chamber in 90%+ isopropyl alcohol for 20 minutes. Never water. Puffco's manual is blunt about it: do not rinse the chamber with water.
3. Swab the base's gold threads and contacts with a cotton bud dampened with IPA. Don't pour anything into the base or rinse it.
4. Let everything air-dry completely. IPA is flammable, and a damp chamber is also a good way to get the error straight back.
5. Refit the chamber and try a heat cycle.
6. If it's a new 3DXL chamber that has never worked, update the base firmware in the Puffco Connect app. An out-of-date base throws red and white with a 3DXL.
7. Still blinking? Reset the base. Hold the button for 20 seconds and release.
8. Still blinking after all that? It's a warranty conversation. You can file a claim in the app, or contact us if you bought it from HerbVape. The base carries 2 years; the chamber carries 6 months.

The same red-and-white pattern means the same thing on the New Peak, the Pivot and the Proxy: a chamber connection error, fixed with IPA and patience. If you've put an aftermarket chamber or "herb atomiser" on the Peak Pro, expect red and white too. At least one maker of those parts admits its atomiser triggers the error, because the base expects a genuine Puffco chamber.

Your First Dab, Properly

The quick start gets you vapour. This is the bit that gets you good vapour.

Load cold, load small

Load the chamber when it's cold, before you double-click, and drop the dab in the middle of the bowl rather than on the rim. An oversized dab doesn't give you a bigger hit so much as a puddle, and the puddle is what floods the chamber and brings on red and white. If you've got a Hot Knife, this is where it earns its keep: it melts sticky concentrate off the tip and into the bowl without smearing it round the rim (the Hot Knife guide covers the technique).

Water: less than you think

Just above the perc holes is the whole instruction. More water means more drag and splashback. Don't blow back into the glass, because that pushes water towards the base, and don't leave water standing in it.

The draw

Wait for the flash and vibration, then inhale slowly and steadily. Coming from dry herb, I had to unlearn the long, hard pull; a gentle draw tastes better. The Joystick Cap directs airflow over the bowl. On the New Peak, Puffco's own instruction is to inhale gently while rotating the Joystick Cap, and the same habit works on the Pro.

Boost and Intensity Mode

If there's still concentrate in the bowl when the cycle ends, double-click during the cycle for a boost: by default another 15 seconds and 18°F. That's usually better than starting a fresh cycle on a hotter profile. Intensity Mode (5 clicks) is Puffco's setting for dry dabs, meaning no water in the glass. It isn't a "stronger" button for normal use.

Peak Pro Specs at a Glance

3D vs 3DXL Chamber

The 3D Chamber became standard on the Peak Pro in 2023, along with the Joystick Cap. The current kit ships with the 3DXL Chamber and the XL Joystick Cap. Puffco says the 3DXL has a 78% larger bowl and makes up to twice the vapour of the 3D chamber.

• It fits every Peak Pro, but only with up-to-date firmware. An old base plus a new 3DXL gives you red and white and no heat.
• The XL Joystick Cap only fits the 3DXL. The standard Peak Pro Joystick Cap goes with the 3D chamber.
• The bowl isn't removable. It's a sealed ceramic chamber, so the whole chamber unscrews and gets cleaned as one piece.
• Bigger bowl doesn't mean bigger dabs. For a solo session I still load small.
• Chambers wear out. They carry 6 months' warranty against 2 years for the base, and Puffco treats them as wear parts. A spare 3DXL chamber or 3D chamber means one can soak while you use the other.

The Puffco Connect App: Pairing, Firmware and Ready Mode

You don't need the app to use a Peak Pro. You do need it for custom profiles, Mood Lights and firmware updates.

1. Install Puffco Connect from the App Store or Google Play.
2. Hold the button for about 6 seconds until the light pulses blue.
3. Select the device in the app. On iPhone, allow both Bluetooth and Location permissions, or it won't find the rig. Custom profiles and Mood Lights need a Puffco account login.
4. To update firmware: Menu (top left) → device settings → the firmware row. A red dot means an update is waiting.

If the app won't pair, reset the Peak Pro (hold 20 seconds), check those permissions and try again.

Ready Mode auto-starts a heat cycle when you lift the Peak Pro off its dock. It's an app setting and it only works with the official Power Dock, not a generic Qi pad. Mood Lights (the old Lantern Mode) are the ambient light patterns, and they're app-only.

New Peak (2024): What's Different

The New Peak launched in July 2024 as the redesign of the original Peak. It shares the Peak Pro's single-button system and most of its light codes, and it has the 3D Chamber and Joystick Cap. It has no Bluetooth or app, no wireless charging and no 3DXL chamber. That's the whole difference in one line: the Pro is the one you can customise.

New Peak light codes that differ

• Red and white alternating: same meaning, chamber connection error. Soak the chamber in 90%+ IPA for 20 minutes, clean the base connection pin, dry fully and refit. If it persists, file a warranty claim.
• White flashes when you try to heat: chamber not attached or not detected. Puffco's help article and manual both say 4 flashes here.
• Battery indicator turns red: roughly 5 dabs left.
• Small red LED above the charging port: only a few heat cycles left. Charge it.
• Solid red for 5 seconds (overheating) and red flashing 3 times (low battery) mean the same as on the Pro.

Rainbow isn't in the New Peak manual; if you ever see it, clean and reseat the chamber. If you need a spare cap, buy the one made for it: the New Peak Joystick Cap.

Peak Pro Troubleshooting

Before any warranty claim, run the universal Puffco order: clean the chamber and contacts with IPA, dry, reseat, reset (hold 20 seconds). That clears most faults.

How to Clean a Puffco Peak Pro

Puffco's rule covers every part: 90%+ isopropyl alcohol, and never water on the chamber or base. Only the glass gets rinsed with water, and only after its IPA soak.

After every session

While the chamber is still warm, not hot, wipe the bowl with a cotton bud dampened with IPA in small circles. Empty the glass.

Every time the battery runs flat

1. Let it cool. Take the cap off and unscrew the chamber.
2. Chamber: submerge it in 90%+ IPA for 20 minutes. No water rinse.
3. Base: swab the gold threads, contacts and airpath with IPA. Don't rinse it or submerge it, and never let water near the gold threads.
4. Glass: take it off the base first. Soak it in IPA (Puffco's help article suggests 99%), then rinse with water and dry fully. Keep water out of the bottom section.
5. Dry everything completely before refitting and heating. IPA is flammable.

Also soak the chamber whenever it floods or shows red and white. Don't store the glass with water in it. The general method, including the salt-shake for glass, is in how to clean a dab rig.

Peak Pro Accessories Worth Having

• A spare chamber. A 3DXL chamber or 3D chamber to rotate, so a 20-minute soak never stops a session. This is the one I'd buy first.
• Peak Pro Joystick Cap. For the 3D chamber. Caps get dropped and lost.
• Puffco Hot Knife. Clean loading of sticky concentrate, fewer floods.
• Peak Pro Power Dock. Only if you want Ready Mode or a charging stand that doubles as a power bank.
• Peak Pro Travel Pack. If it leaves the house. Empty the glass first.
• Peak Pro Colored Glass. Purely cosmetic, and handy as a spare because glass isn't covered by the warranty.

Skip aftermarket "dry herb atomisers". They throw the red-and-white error and void the warranty, which covers only Puffco-approved accessories. Current stock is on the Puffco collection page.

Can You Put Flower in a Puffco Peak Pro?

No. The Peak Pro, New Peak and every other Puffco electronic device are concentrate-only. The profiles run from 490°F to 575°F (254–301°C), far above where flower vaporises cleanly, so flower scorches. It can also clog the airpath and damage the ceramic, and third-party herb atomisers trigger chamber errors and void the warranty. Puffco doesn't make a flower chamber for the Peak. What do the colours on a Puffco Peak Pro mean?

Steady colours are heat profiles: Blue 490°F, Green 510°F, Red 530°F, White 575°F by default. Patterns are status codes: red and white alternating is a chamber error, several white flashes means no chamber, solid red is overheating, three red flashes is low battery. Why is my Puffco Peak blinking red?

Three red flashes means low battery; charge it. Solid red for 5 seconds means it's overheated; let it cool. Red alternating with white is a chamber connection error; soak and dry the chamber, then reset.

How do I reset a Puffco Peak Pro?

Hold the button for 20 seconds and release. Do it after cleaning the chamber if red and white persists, or when the app won't pair.

How long does the Peak Pro battery last?

Puffco says about 30 heating cycles in its help centre and 40 dabs on average on the 3DXL product page. The White profile, long cycles and boosts all use more.

Does the Peak Pro need water?

Normally yes: water to just above the perc holes. The exception is Intensity Mode (5 clicks), which Puffco designed for dry dabs without water.
