Vapour Quality 6.0/10

Conduction heating through a glass mouthpiece. That's the whole story.

The glass mouthpiece is the Slick's quality. At 196°C, the first three draws deliver clean, smooth vapour with genuine terp presence. The glass adds zero flavour of its own — unlike the plastic mouthpieces on the Flowermate Aura, which taint the draw with polymer warmth. Through glass, the Slick's conduction is honest.

By draw four, conduction does what conduction does. Flavour fades. The herb closest to the chamber walls is extracted; the centre is barely touched. Mid-session stirring is required — pop the mouthpiece, stir with the included stainless steel tool, replace, continue. It's a ritual. Not elegant, but necessary.

The 0.4g bowl means there's enough flower mass to sustain flavour longer than smaller-bowl conduction devices. At 206°C (preset 2), the balance between flavour and density is best. At 215°C (preset 3), you're extracting rather than tasting.

Draw resistance is the annoyance. The airpath isn't generous. You pull harder than you want to, which cools the chamber slightly and reduces vapour density. It's not a dealbreaker. It's a "this costs seventy-nine quid" moment.

Grape Ape — Indica (Street)

The flower: Mendocino Purps × Skunk #1 × Afghani. Nearly pure indica. 18-21% THC. Myrcene dominant, pinene, linalool. Sweet grape candy, musky berry, earthy lavender. Unmistakable purple flavour. Dense buds with that frosty Afghani lineage.

The pack: 0.4g medium grind, full herb pod.

196°C (Preset 1): Grape sweetness. The myrcene comes through the glass mouthpiece cleanly — sweet, berry-forward, unmistakably Grape Ape. Three draws of genuine flavour. The glass does its job; no plastic interference, no metal warmth. Just grape candy. Budget device, proper terps.

206°C (Preset 2): Musky berry deepens. Linalool's lavender undertone arrives. The indica body settles — heavy, warm, relaxing. Stirred the bowl at draw four. Three more draws post-stir with decent density. This is the Slick's sweet spot.

215°C (Preset 3): Earthy extraction. Flavour fading. One-two draws to finish. AVB unevenly brown — the centre lighter than the edges. Classic conduction.

The verdict: Grape Ape through the Slick's glass mouthpiece at 206°C was genuinely pleasant. The grape character came through clearly. The glass mouthpiece earns its place — this is a different experience from a plastic-mouthpiece budget device. Not convection. Not remarkable. But genuinely pleasant for £79.

Tilray Warlock T22 — Indica (Medical)

The flower: Skunk #1 × Afghani. Indica-dominant. 22% THC, <1% CBD. Myrcene, caryophyllene, limonene. Earthy, spicy, with unexpected citrus brightness. Complex for a pure indica. Resinous, high-THC medical flower at ~£5-7/g.

The pack: 0.35g medium grind, slightly under full pod.

196°C (Preset 1): Earthy spice with citrus. The caryophyllene-limonene combination through glass produces a warm, clear opening. Two draws of decent medical quality. The Warlock's complexity shows through — more interesting than the typical budget-device flavour. The caryophyllene's anti-inflammatory CB2 action starts working.

206°C (Preset 2): Full medical extraction. Earthy, herbal, warm. Three draws. The indica body is heavy — pain relief arriving in waves. The Warlock's 22% THC demands respect from any heating method.

The verdict: The Slick extracts medical-grade flower adequately. Not brilliantly. Not poorly. For a medical patient on budget strains at £5-7/g, the Slick at £79 is a cost-effective entry point. The glass mouthpiece helps. The three presets limit precision. But cannabinoids don't care about temperature precision — they care about reaching vaporisation point. The Slick manages that.

The carbon fibre coating is the surprise. At £79, you expect matte plastic and wishful thinking. The Slick delivers textured carbon fibre over aluminium that feels genuinely considered. It's the camera's rubberised grip — functional, comfortable, fingerprint-resistant.

The removable pod system is mechanically satisfying. Click in, click out. The herb pod, concentrate pod, and stainless steel stirring tool all fit into the carry case. It's a complete kit at a price that shouldn't include a complete kit.

The glass mouthpiece is the quality. Real borosilicate glass. Cool to the lips. Clean to taste through. But glass is glass — one kitchen-floor encounter and it's done. Replacement availability is declining with the discontinuation. Treat it gently.

Removable 18650. 2500mAh. At £79, this is the Slick's best feature after the glass mouthpiece.

Carry spares. Swap in seconds. Never wait for a charge. When the 2500mAh cell starts degrading after 300 cycles, buy a new cell for £5 rather than a new device. This is the sustainable budget approach — the disposable camera with reloadable film.

USB charging via cradle or cable. Not USB-C (this is an older device), but functional. An external 18650 charger is faster and better for cell health.

How I Actually Use This

My default setup: Preset 2 (206°C), the sweet spot; 0.4g medium grind in the full herb pod; full five-minute auto-shutoff, stir at minute 3.

When I reach for it: When heading somewhere I might lose a vape. Festivals. Camping. A night out where pockets are unreliable. The Slick is the device I don't worry about. Lose it? Seventy-nine quid. Break the glass? Annoying but not devastating. It's the backup's backup — always charged, always ready, never precious.

The discontinued status adds urgency. This is a "while stocks last" device. When it's gone, there's nothing else at this price with a glass mouthpiece and removable 18650.

The Verdict (The Bookend)

Like disposable cameras: grab one while Boots still stocks them.

The Flowermate Slick is a budget device that shouldn't have a glass mouthpiece. Shouldn't have a removable 18650. Shouldn't have carbon fibre aluminium. At £79, the feature set doesn't make sense. And yet here it is — glass, battery, carbon fibre, all in a pen-style package that weighs 120 grams and costs less than two tanks of petrol.

It's not great. Three presets are limiting. Conduction means stirring. Draw resistance means working for your vapour. Discontinued means no future. These are real limitations that keep the score at 6.5 and the recommendation to specific use cases.

But within those cases — the festival backup, the budget entry point, the "I want glass and a swappable battery for under eighty quid" buyer — the Slick delivers. Dave had three. He treated them like Bic lighters. Use it, lose it, grab another. That's the highest compliment a budget device can receive.

The photos came back. They were surprisingly good. Just one more roll.
