Dave brought the Smono 4 Pro to a session at mine. Put it next to my Mighty+. "Blind test," he said.

I hated to admit it, but the difference wasn't £130 worth.

The Smono 4 Pro is the £85 Aldi Malbec of vaporisers. You serve it at a dinner party and nobody guesses the price. Hybrid heating is the winemaker's blend — convection meets conduction like Old World meets New. The ceramic zirconia chamber is the terroir — neutral, clean, letting the grape speak for itself. And the 3000mAh battery is the unexpected magnum — twice what you thought you were getting at the till.

The plastic housing is the screw cap. Snobs will judge. They'll pick up the bottle, feel the cap, raise an eyebrow. "Plastic?" they'll say. Then they'll taste the wine. Then they'll go quiet. Then they'll ask what you paid.

You can read the label, see the screw cap, feel the plastic — and none of it matters once the wine is in the glass.

Vapour Quality 7.5/10

Hybrid heating. The conduction warms the herb. The convection draws hot air through it. The result is better than either system alone at this price.

At 180°C, the hybrid advantage is immediately obvious. The convection pulls terps while the conduction provides density. You get flavour clarity that pure conduction can't match and vapour thickness that pure convection at budget level struggles to deliver. The ceramic zirconia chamber adds nothing to the taste — it's the neutral wine glass that lets the vintage speak.

At 195°C, this is the 4 Pro's peak. Dense, flavourful, satisfying clouds. Four to five draws with excellent character. The hybrid heating distributes extraction across the bowl more evenly than pure conduction — less stirring, more consistency. This is where £85 starts winning blind tests against devices costing three times more.

At 210°C, density peaks but flavour steps back. Extraction mode. The hybrid system maintains some terp presence that pure conduction loses entirely at high temps. Two draws to finish the bowl.

The 0.25g ceramic zirconia chamber is efficient. The neutral material means your herb tastes like your herb — no metallic undertones, no ceramic colouring, just flower. Combined with the glass mouthpiece, the vapour path from chamber to lips is clean.

The Strain Test

Two strains. Two Aldi wine tastings. Both surprisingly complex from a bottle that costs £85.

Animal Mints — Hybrid (Street)

The Flower: Animal Cookies × SinMint Cookies. Balanced hybrid, slight indica lean. 22–28% THC. Caryophyllene dominant, limonene, myrcene, linalool. Minty cookie dough, diesel exhale, earthy sweetness. The mint comes in waves — first draw is cookie, second is mint, third is diesel. A layered strain that rewards precise extraction.

The Pack: 0.25g medium grind, full ceramic zirconia chamber.

175°C: The mint layer. The convection component pulls the volatile menthol terpenes first — cool, clean, unmistakable. The ceramic chamber adds nothing, which is everything. Two draws of pure mint cookie. The hybrid heating makes temperature stepping particularly effective here — the convection extracts the high-volatility terps while the conduction warms the lower layers.

190°C: Cookie sweetness. The Animal Cookies parentage arrives — buttery, doughy, rich. The conduction drives the myrcene out of the deeper plant material while the convection carries the limonene brightness above. Four draws. Each slightly different. The layering is genuinely impressive for a device at this price.

205°C: Diesel body. The SinMint Cookies base asserts itself — fuel, earth, depth. The caryophyllene provides warmth and anti-inflammatory effect. Two draws to clear. The mint is a memory. The cookie is fading. The diesel finishes strong.

Tilray PT01 T22 — Sativa (Medical)

The Flower: Proprietary Tilray cultivar. Sativa-dominant. 22% THC, <1% CBD. Terpinolene dominant, myrcene, pinene. Floral, herbal, slightly fruity with a pine undertone. Terpinolene gives a unique profile — not your typical lemon or earthy medical strain. Less commonly prescribed but distinctive.

The Pack: 0.2g medium grind, slightly under-packed for medical micro-dosing.

170°C: Floral terpinolene. This terpene is delicate, easily degraded by heat, and rarely preserved well in budget devices. Through the 4 Pro's hybrid heating and ceramic zirconia, the floral notes arrive intact — incense-like, aromatic, distinctly different from the limonene and myrcene that dominate most medical strains. Two draws of unusual, beautiful flavour. A good measure of the ceramic chamber's neutrality.

185°C: Fuller profile. The myrcene base fills in. The pinene adds sharpness — clean, piney, focused. Three draws. The sativa effects are arriving — uplifting, creative, clear-headed. Pinene supporting memory and alertness. For ADHD productivity sessions, this is the prescription at this temperature.

195°C: Maximum extraction without losing sativa clarity. Herbal, earthy, complete. Two draws. Higher temperatures flatten the terpinolene — cap it here for medicinal benefit.

The Verdict: The PT01 through the Smono 4 Pro at 170°C preserved terpinolene better than I expected from any device under £150. The ceramic zirconia chamber's neutrality is the key — it adds nothing, changes nothing, lets the unusual terpene profile speak. For medical patients prescribed terpinolene-dominant strains, the 4 Pro's combination of hybrid heating and neutral chamber is clinically relevant. Not a marketing claim. A terpene preservation observation.

Design & Build 6.5/10

Slim handheld. OLED display. Glass mouthpiece. Plastic housing. The Smono 4 Pro looks like an £85 device and feels like an £85 one.

The OLED is the centrepiece — a full-colour display showing real-time temperature, battery level and session info. Clear, crisp, well-laid-out. Indoors, it's excellent. In direct sunlight, it washes out. The controls are intuitive — a button interface for degree-by-degree adjustment.

The plastic housing is the honest reality. It's better quality plastic than the Smono No.3 — less flex, less creak — but it's still plastic in a world where the PAX Mini 2 offers anodised aluminium and the DaVinci IQC offers brushed metal. Hold the 4 Pro and then hold a Crafty+. The interior materials are comparable. The exterior materials are not.

Tom bought one after Dave's demonstration. His lasted eight months before the mouthpiece loosened. But even Tom admits those eight months were brilliant. Later production runs tightened the mouthpiece fit. Check the manufacture date if buying.

Battery & Charging 9.0/10

3000mAh. USB-C. Ninety minutes to charge. The Smono 4 Pro's battery is its second-best feature after the price.

Real-world: 8–12 sessions per charge at 190°C. A full day. A weekend. More battery than the Mighty+ carries at three times the price. The 4 Pro will outlast your desire to keep vaping before it runs out.

The battery is sealed. No swapping. This is the 4 Pro's concession to simplicity over the Smono No.5's removable 18650. At 3000mAh, the sealed battery matters less — you won't need to swap because you won't run out.

Ease of Use 8.0/10

OLED display. Degree-by-degree control. Glass mouthpiece. Quick 25-second heat-up. The Smono 4 Pro gives you everything you need and nothing you don't.

A button interface for temperature adjustment — press to cycle up or down, single-degree increments shown on the OLED. The session starts automatically once the target temp is reached. 5-minute auto-shutoff. No app dependency. No experience modes. No guessing. Set 190°C, get 190°C, see 190°C on the screen.

The 0.25g ceramic chamber is small enough to prevent overpacking but large enough for a satisfying session. Medium grind, don't compress, let the hybrid heating do its job. No stirring required — the combined conduction and convection distribute heat well.

Cleaning & Maintenance 7.0/10

The ceramic zirconia chamber resists staining better than stainless steel. The glass mouthpiece soaks clean in ISO. The airpath is the only maintenance challenge — not easily accessible for deep cleaning.

Cleaning timeline:

• After every 3–4 sessions: brush the ceramic chamber
• Weekly: ISO soak the glass mouthpiece
• Fortnightly: pipe cleaner through the airpath
• Monthly: full disassemble and deep clean

The ceramic's neutrality extends to cleaning — residue builds up less aggressively than on metal chambers. The glass mouthpiece pops off for easy access.

Portability 7.0/10

~145g, slim handheld, pocketable. Not the lightest (the PAX Mini 2 is 89g, the Flowermate Aura is 90g) but slim enough for a jacket or trouser pocket. The glass mouthpiece adds fragility.

Stealth is moderate. The OLED screen is visible in the dark — cover it with your palm for discrete use. The slim profile helps. Not pen-shaped but not chunky. The 4 Pro fits the "acceptable pocket bulk" category without crossing into Boundless CFX territory.

How I Actually Use This

My default setup:

• Temperature: 190°C. The hybrid sweet spot.
• Pack: 0.2g medium grind, slightly under-full.
• Session: Full 5-minute auto-shutoff, 4–5 draws.

When I reach for it: When I want good vapour and don't want to think about it. The 4 Pro is the daily driver I recommend to everyone — enough battery to not worry, enough flavour to not compromise, enough simplicity to not fuss. It's the vape equivalent of a reliable car with a comfortable seat and a full tank.

When I don't: When flavour is the absolute priority. The Smono No.3's pure convection at low temps still edges the 4 Pro's hybrid for terp clarity. And when I want the ritual — the TinyMight 2, the DynaVap — devices that demand attention. The 4 Pro doesn't demand attention. That's its strength and its limitation.

Honest cleaning frequency: Every 4–5 sessions. The ceramic zirconia stays cleaner longer. Quick brush, occasional mouthpiece soak. Maintenance is minimal.

Medical Use Notes

For ADHD: The simple OLED interface requires minimal executive function. Set temp, wait 25 seconds, draw. No mode cycling, no app dependency. The terpinolene preservation shown in the PT01 test matters for ADHD — terpinolene supports focus and creativity. The 4 Pro's hybrid system preserves these delicate terpenes better than conduction alternatives at any price under £150.

Value for Money 9.5/10

I've written this section thirty-eight times across thirty-eight device reviews. The Smono 4 Pro is the easiest value assessment I've made.

Hybrid heating. Ceramic zirconia chamber. Glass mouthpiece. OLED display. Degree-by-degree control. 3000mAh battery. USB-C. 3-year warranty. £85.

The Mighty+ uses hybrid heating and costs £255.99. The Mighty is a better device — better build, bigger bowl, a proven track record. But it's three times the price. Is it three times better? Dave says no. I hate that Dave says no. Dave is probably right.

The Smono No.3 is the value champion for pure convection at £75. The 4 Pro is the value champion for everything else. Ten pounds more buys you: hybrid heating (better density), a 3000mAh battery (nearly double), an OLED display, and ceramic zirconia (vs titanium). Both are excellent. The 4 Pro is the better all-rounder.

Pound for pound, the Smono 4 Pro is the best value in the entire lineup. The Aldi Malbec that wins blind taste tests. The screw cap nobody notices once the wine is in the glass.

The 4 Pro has hybrid heating (vs the Roffu's pure convection) and better build consistency. Both are excellent. The Roffu at £109 is the enthusiast choice. The 4 Pro at £85 is the everyone choice.

Vs PAX Mini 2 (£119.00)

Thirty-four pounds more for conduction, 1500mAh, and the PAX brand. The PAX is smaller (89g vs 145g) and prettier. The Verdict (The Bookend)

Dave still brings the Smono 4 Pro to sessions. He still puts it next to whatever device the host has. He still says "blind test." The room still goes quiet.

That's the Aldi wine effect. You can read the label. You can see the screw cap. You can feel the plastic. And none of it matters once the wine is in the glass. The ceramic zirconia doesn't care about the housing. The hybrid heating doesn't care about the brand. The 3000mAh battery doesn't care about the price tag. The vapour is the vapour.

The Smono 4 Pro costs £85. It uses hybrid heating. It has a ceramic zirconia chamber, a glass mouthpiece, an OLED display, degree-by-degree control, and a battery that lasts all day. Three-year warranty. USB-C. And a plastic housing that scratches if you look at it wrong.

You can spend more. The Mighty+ is better. The Venty is better. The Crafty+ is better. They're also £100–220 more. And when Dave puts the Smono 4 Pro next to them and says "blind test," the room goes quiet for a reason.
