That's how to use the Puffco Pivot: charge, 3-second hold, small dab, click for colour, double-click to heat, gentle draw when it buzzes. The Pivot is Puffco's dab pen for concentrates. It has a mini 3D Chamber on a quick-release connection, four heat settings, haptics, USB-C, and a light bar that doubles as a visual dab timer. It has no app and no Bluetooth, so everything happens on the one button.

Some background on the writer. I'm a dry-herb man first, and I have been since 2018, but I've benched the Puffco kit HerbVape stocks, and the Pivot is the one I'd hand somebody who has never used a concentrate device. Every temperature, click and light code below comes from Puffco's Pivot manual and help centre. Where Puffco hasn't published something, like the full charge time, I say that rather than guess. Puffco Pivot Temperature Settings

Four fixed heat settings, each shown as a colour. Single-click to step through them. These are from the Pivot manual, with the °C figures from the manual's own translations:

With no app, you can't set custom temperatures or re-colour the settings the way Peak Pro owners can. The four above are what you get, and the colours on every Pivot mean the same thing. Note that all four are 10°F higher than the Peak Pro's defaults, so don't assume "Green on the Pivot" is the same as "Green on the Peak".

Lower gives more flavour and less vapour; higher gives the opposite. I mostly use the Green setting, with Blue for the first session of the day. Puffco Pivot Clicks: The Cheat-Sheet

That's the documented set. Puffco's product page mentions a "Disco Mode", and some retailers describe hidden light modes, but Puffco hasn't published how to trigger them, so I won't pass on guesses. The same goes for a stealth mode: it's a Peak Pro feature, and Puffco doesn't document one for the Pivot. One rule does matter: don't heat the Pivot more than 4 times back to back. That's Puffco's instruction, and ignoring it is the quickest route to the overheating light.

Puffco Pivot Light Codes: What Every Light Means

Rainbow flashing and pulsing blue aren't Pivot codes. Rainbow belongs to the original 2017 Peak, and pulsing blue is Bluetooth pairing on the Peak Pro and New Proxy. If a guide lists "yellow" as a Pivot heat setting, it's wrong.

Why Is My Puffco Pivot Blinking Red?

A Puffco Pivot blinking red is almost always telling you the battery is low. Puffco says red flashing after a dab, or when you turn it on, means you have about 3 dabs left. Plug it in with the USB-C cable. The one exception is solid red with a vibration, which means it has overheated and needs to cool down.

So look at the pattern, not just the colour:

• Flashing red after dabs or at power-on: low battery. Charge it.
• Three red flashes: low battery. Charge it fully.
• Solid red plus a buzz: overheating. Put it down and let it cool. You've probably run several cycles back to back; Puffco's limit is 4.
• Red alternating with white: not the battery. That's the chamber connection error below.

Why Is My Puffco Pivot Blinking Red and White?

A Pivot blinking red and white has a chamber connection error. Sticky concentrate residue on the contacts between the chamber and the base is stopping them connecting properly. Remove the chamber, clean the connection on both parts with a cotton swab and 90%+ isopropyl alcohol, let it dry, and refit the chamber fully.

Step by step:

1. Turn it off and let it cool.
2. Remove the chamber from the base using the quick-release connection.
3. Swab the connection on the chamber with a cotton bud dipped in 90%+ IPA until the bud comes away clean.
4. Swab the connection on the base the same way. Use a damp bud only; don't pour IPA into the base.
5. If the chamber has flooded, take it out of the mouthpiece and soak it in 90%+ IPA for 20–30 minutes. Never water.
6. Let everything dry completely. IPA is flammable.
7. Refit the chamber firmly and fully, then try a heat cycle.
8. Still red and white? Try a spare chamber if you have one. If a clean chamber still errors, it's a warranty question: the Pivot is covered for 2 years, but the chamber only for 1 month.

Red and white means the same thing on every current Puffco: the Peak Pro, the New Peak and the Proxy all use it for a chamber connection error. The fix is always the same order: clean with IPA, dry, reseat, and only then think about warranty.

Your First Dab on the Pivot, Properly

Loading

Open the mouthpiece to reach the chamber, drop the dab into the middle of the bowl, and close the cap. Load it cold, before you double-click. Keep it small. Puffco's instruction is "less is more", because overpacking leads to "sticky, leaky messes". If your concentrate is stiff or sticky and won't leave the tool cleanly, a Hot Knife melts it straight into the bowl (see the Hot Knife guide).

The draw

Wait for the double buzz and flash, then inhale slowly and gently. The light bar shows you where you are in the cycle, so you don't have to count. Coming from dry herb, I had to stop pulling hard. A gentle, steady draw gives you more flavour than a rip.

Boost, and when to stop

If there's still concentrate in the bowl at the end of the cycle, double-click during the dab to boost. It extends the cycle and raises the temperature. That's usually better than starting again on a hotter setting. Two limits: every boost counts as another heat cycle against the battery, and Puffco says not to heat the Pivot more than 4 times back to back.

Straight after

While the chamber is still warm, swab the bowl and the mouthpiece with a cotton bud. Warm residue wipes off. Cold residue has to be soaked off.

Pivot Battery and Charging

• Battery life: Puffco says up to 15 heat cycles per charge on the lowest setting (Blue). Hotter settings give fewer, and every boost counts as an extra cycle. If you live on White with a boost every dab, expect a lot less than 15.
• Charging: USB-C, with the port on the bottom of the base. Puffco doesn't publish a full-charge time, so I won't give you one. Charge it fully before first use.
• Won't turn on: charge it for at least 30 minutes, then hold the button for 3–5 seconds.
• Battery check: 3 clicks. Green, Orange or Red.
• Temperature: Puffco's manuals give an operating and charging range of 0–38°C. Don't leave it in a hot car.

Fifteen cycles is the Pivot's real limitation. It's a pen, and a pen has a pen-sized battery. For a day out, that's plenty. If you're sharing it round a table, a Peak Pro is the better device.

Carrying and Storing the Pivot

The Pivot is the Puffco that leaves the house, so a few habits are worth building. Swab it before it goes in a pocket. Warm residue left in the bowl turns into cold residue on the contacts, and that's a red-and-white error waiting for you later. Keep the mouthpiece closed so nothing gets into the chamber. Keep it out of heat. Puffco's operating and charging range is 0–38°C, and a glovebox in July is well over that. If it shows solid red after sitting in the sun, it's the overheating warning, and it needs time, not more clicks.

Also carry the loading tool. Trying to load a dab pen with whatever's to hand is how concentrate ends up on the outside of the chamber and, eventually, on the connection. A spare chamber from the 2-pack weighs next to nothing and means a flooded chamber doesn't end the day.

Heat-up time isn't on the list because Puffco doesn't state one. Some retailers quote figures, and I'm not repeating unverified numbers.

The Pivot Glass Adapter: Turning It Into an E-Rig

On its own, the Pivot is a dry pen with no water. The Pivot Glass Adapter changes that: it connects the Pivot to water glass with 10mm and 14mm joints, which effectively makes it a small e-rig. Every time the battery runs flat

1. Let it cool and remove the chamber from the base.
2. Chamber: take it out of the mouthpiece and soak it in 90%+ IPA for 20–30 minutes. Dry it upside down. Don't rinse it with water.
3. Mouthpiece: soak it in IPA for 20–30 minutes, rinse with water, and dry it upside down.
4. Base: swab the threads and connection with IPA only. Don't soak it and don't rinse it.
5. Glass Adapter (if you have one): soak it in IPA, rinse with water, dry.
6. Reassemble only when everything is completely dry.

Pivot Accessories Worth Having

• Pivot 3D Chamber 2-Pack. With only 1 month of chamber warranty, spares are the first thing I'd buy. They also let one chamber soak while you use another.
• Pivot Glass Adapter. If you want water filtration at home.
• Puffco Hot Knife. Cleaner loading, fewer overfilled chambers.
• Cotton buds and 90%+ IPA. From the chemist. Branded "cleaners" are mostly overpriced IPA.

Can You Put Flower in a Puffco Pivot?

No. The Pivot is a concentrate-only device, like every Puffco electronic device. Its settings run from 500°F to 585°F (260–307°C), far hotter than flower vaporises cleanly, so flower scorches. Flower can also clog the airpath and damage the ceramic chamber, and misuse isn't covered by the warranty. There's no herb chamber for the Pivot. The long answer is in can you put flower in a Puffco?
